Two men in a place earned their food with their work digging. One was married and had six children. The married one had earned much property, and he and all those in this house went about well-dressed.
Dos hombres, en un lugar ganavan de comer con su trabajo cabando, el uno era casado y tenia seis hijos. El casado havia ganado mucha hazienda, y el, y todos los de su casa andavan bien vestidos.

The single man, although he worked hard every day, and even on the holidays, earned only enough for himself alone, and was not able to dress himself on what he earned.

One day thinking about this to himself, he called to the rich one and said to him, "I am amazed that I work more than you, but I hardly earn what is necessary to eat, and you who work less are so rich. Tell me how you earn so much. I want to do what you do."
Un dia pensando esto entre si, llamo al otro rico, y dijole: Estoy maravillado, como trabajando yo mas que vos, apenas gano lo que è menester para comer, y vos que trabajais menos estais tan rico, dezidme como ganais tanto? que yo quiero hazer como vos.

The married man said enthusiastically that he would call every morning so that they could go together.
El casado dijo que de buena gana, que el le llamaria cada mañana, para que fuessen juntos.

The following day, very early, the married man called on the single man and took him to hear the first mass that was said very early so that those that worked could hear it. They went and heard it, and then went to work.
El dia siguiente muy de mañana llamó el casado al soltero, y llevole a la iglesia a oyr la primera missa que se dezia muy de mañana, para que la oyesen los que que trabajavan: fueron y oyeronla, y luego fueron a trabajar.

The next day the rich married man called again on the poor single man, and he answered from inside that the other should go ahead and that he would go after him. But he arrived late in the middle of the mass.
Otro dia volvio a llamar el casado rico al soltero pobre, y respondio desde adẽtro, que fuesse delante que luego iria tras el, mas llego tarde a media missa.

The third day he (the rich man) went to call, and the other man responded angrily "Go if you want; if I want to go to mass, you don't need to take me, I know the road well, and the mass makes me more tired than tilling."
El tercero dia fuele a llamar, y respondiò con enfado, id vos si quereis, que yo si quisiere ir a missa no es menester que me lleveis, que bien se el camino, y mas me canso de estar en missa que de cabar.

The married man answered "At the beginning, it seems to tire me, and I went reluctantly, but I made myself, and I resolved to go every day, and now i go enthusiastically."

although I don't try to earn riches, nor benefits of the body, but of the soul. But God gives me everything. When the poor single man saw that it was like this, he decided to imitate him, and always do the same, not to gain riches of the body, but of the soul, so that when he died, he would have some goods for the soul, and would not be found as poor as all.
aunque yo no voy por ganar riquezas, ni bienes del cuerpo, sino del alma. Pero dios me lo da de todo. viendo el soltero pobre que era assi determino de le imitar, y hazer siempre como el, no por ganar riquezas del cuerpo, sino del anima, para que quando muriese tuviese algunos bienes para el anima, y no se hallase tan pobre del todo.
