Many have thought that the souls of animals

A passage that I have been working on in Colonial Valley Zapotec (from the Feria doctrina):


One thing of interest is the word <tuatij>, which seems to be /rua rii/ 'in this' in modern Zapotec.  But the rii 'this' modifies the following word, while in the Colonial text it seems to be enclitic on the preceding word.

Modern Valley Zapotec languages have both proclitic and enclitic forms of the word meaning 'this'.
